About the team

The Business team at Airwallex is a passionate group of collaborators and business builders dedicated to empowering businesses of all sizes to thrive in the global economy. South Korea is a key expansion market for our APAC region and will play a critical role in achieving Airwallex’s commercial success.

The role

The Country Lead / Head of SME & Growth, South Korea is a key part of the commercial leadership team in APAC, responsible for building and leading our business in South Korea. You will drive strategic decision-making, own ambitious commercial outcomes, and ensure alignment with broader regional objectives.

You will launch and lead a high-performing commercial team on the ground — acquiring new clients (frontbook), managing and growing existing relationships (backbook), driving upsells and cross-sells, and cementing Airwallex as the partner of choice for Korean businesses in the global banking and payments ecosystem.

What you’ll do

  • Hire, lead and inspire
    Build, lead and develop a high-performing sales organisation in South Korea, including Sales Development, Inbound/Outbound Sales, Account Management and Channel Partnerships. Set clear standards, coach the team and drive them to exceed market and regional targets.

  • Shape and execute the South Korea commercial strategy
    Develop and own the end-to-end go‑to‑market strategy for South Korea, including segmentation, vertical plays and channel strategy. Leverage data, market insights and key revenue channels to drive growth and profitability in line with annual OKRs.

  • Engage deeply with customers and the market
    Act as a senior customer-facing leader: interface directly with customers and prospects, lead strategic and complex deals, and shape customer-focused strategies in close partnership with our global Product and Partnerships teams.

  • Own P&L and financial performance
    Own commercial contribution margin, budgets and investments for South Korea. Ensure financial goals are met while aligning incentive structures, territory design and coverage models with global frameworks and local dynamics.

  • Build a high-performing culture
    Recruit, empower and retain top talent; foster a positive, high-performance, customer-obsessed culture. Lead quarterly Sales Kick-Offs, pipeline reviews and ongoing enablement to align, motivate and upskill the team.

  • Enhance brand and drive strategic collaboration
    Strengthen Airwallex’s brand in South Korea by representing the company at key industry events, customer forums and ecosystem gatherings. Collaborate with regional and global teams (Marketing, Strategy, Product, Revenue Operations) to align on commercial strategies and campaigns.

  • Champion compliance, risk and scalability
    Partner with Legal, Risk, Compliance, Operations and Marketing to ensure scalable, compliant growth and an exceptional customer experience across the corporate client lifecycle — from onboarding and activation to expansion and retention.

Who you are

We’re looking for people who meet the minimum qualifications below. The preferred qualifications are great to have, but not mandatory.

Minimum qualifications

  • 8+ years’ experience in commercial leadership roles (e.g. management consulting, sales, revenue growth, or go‑to‑market leadership), including direct P&L ownership and a proven track record of driving cross-functional teams to ambitious targets.

  • Proven ability to build and scale high-performing teams in dynamic, high-growth environments, with a track record of coaching, performance management and fostering strong engagement.

  • Analytical and data-driven approach to strategy and execution, leveraging market and customer insights, funnel metrics and unit economics to optimise commercial outcomes.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate across diverse teams and regions, influence global product strategies and represent Airwallex externally with customers and partners.

  • Language: Fluent Korean and strong English communication skills (written and verbal).

  • Market experience: Demonstrated experience operating in the South Korean market, with a deep understanding of local buyer needs, commercial channels and the broader fintech/payments landscape.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience launching and scaling go‑to‑market teams in hyper-growth startups, ideally in fintech, payments, banking, cards or B2B SaaS.

  • A strong network across channels and partnerships relevant to client acquisition (e.g. technology partners, SaaS platforms, agencies, accounting/ERP ecosystems and local distributors).

  • Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity and adapt quickly to evolving market conditions, with innovative problem‑solving skills and a strong bias to action.

  • Experience working with or selling to corporate customers in South Korea, with familiarity across use cases such as global payments, FX, cards and treasury.

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for customer meetings, team events and regional/global leadership forums.
