The Role

The Analytics Engineer at Athena is part of a squad with a well-defined mission and ships high quality code and solutions to the challenges of helping customers reach their financial independence more quickly.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain and refactor analytics solutions across the Athena business domains
• Design and implement software solutions for data modelling, transformation and presentation.
• Review and collaborate with others on internal and cross-team technical proposals.
• Create and maintain scalable and extensible data processing and reporting architecture.
• Build self-service tooling and platforms.
• Continuously increase efficiency and quality of your team through tooling and experimentation.
• Collaborate with everyone in an open and constructive way.
• Operate the software products offered by the team.

About You

• You are a skilful engineer with high standards, passion for quality and 1-3 years of experience under your belt.
• You are adaptable and keen to learn new languages when necessary but already competent and comfortable with SQL.
• You have experience writing SQL, structuring data, and data storage practices.
• You have great interpersonal and communication skills.
• You can collaborate with software engineers, product owners and other IT staff members in order to understand the goals, derive/adapt requirements and implement solutions.
• You are comfortable working in an Agile, fast-paced DevOps environment.
• You are a problem-solver and embrace the can-do.
• You are a team player.
• You are keen to learn and get comfortable with new technologies.
• You can’t stand the sight of broken things; you go and fix them!
• You preferably have BSc in Computer Science, Engineering or Mathematics/Statistics.

What a successful candidate looks like

• Solid data analysis and reporting fundamentals: SQL, business intelligence tools, etc. Experience with DBT (Data Build Tool) will be a plus.
• Experience with public cloud providers is a plus. AWS is an even bigger plus.
• Strong design and analytical skills related to working with unstructured datasets.
• Capacity to think holistically and see the bigger picture.
• Solid writing and communication skills.
• Be great, be you, play nice.
