About the role - This is not a traditional software engineering role.

Sitting at the intersection of Product, Marketing, Sales and Engineering, you will identify commercial opportunities and quickly turn ideas into working products.

You might build a new AI-powered feature, prototype a product concept, improve conversion across the customer journey or launch an entirely new revenue stream. You will work directly with commercial and product leaders, moving quickly from opportunity to prototype, validation and launch.

This is a hands-on individual contributor role built around three things:

• Strong architectural and system design thinking
• An AI-native engineering practice
• Self-starting leadership through action and example

You will design and build performant, modular systems across the full stack. AI tooling will be your primary authoring mechanism, but you will bring the technical judgment needed to review, refine and improve what it produces.

The pace is fast, the codebase is evolving and the path forward will not always be clearly defined. You will be expected to spot opportunities, create from nothing and ship without waiting for perfect conditions.

What you’ll do

• Work across Product, Marketing and Sales to identify and validate new growth opportunities
• Rapidly prototype and launch AI-powered products, features and commercial experiments
• Create new customer experiences and revenue streams for a health platform used by tens of millions of people
• Design and build performant, modular systems across the full stack
• Apply architectural and system-level thinking, rather than focusing only on individual functions or features
• Work in an AI-native way across the full software development lifecycle
• Own work end-to-end, including design, build, launch, monitoring and iteration
• Find gaps and solve them without waiting for direction
• Lead through example across code reviews, pairing, knowledge sharing and technical decision-making
• Experiment with emerging AI tools, frameworks and engineering workflows, then share what works
• Surface risks and blockers early, with no surprises
• Participate in incident response and the on-call rotation

What you’ll bring

• Five or more years of software engineering experience, including senior-level work in a SaaS environment
• Current, hands-on and confident Ruby on Rails experience
• Strong full-stack capability, with the ability to move between backend and frontend development
• Strong architectural and system design skills, including the ability to reason about performance, modularity and technical trade-offs
• A current AI-native engineering practice using tools such as Claude Code, Cursor or GitHub Copilot as a primary authoring mechanism
• The judgment and discipline to thoroughly review AI-generated code
• A commercial mindset and an interest in using technology to drive customer growth and revenue
• The ability to identify opportunities and drive work from idea to launch without close direction
• Comfort working through ambiguity, evolving priorities and constant change
• Strong written and verbal communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences

Nice to have

• Frontend experience with React, Angular or Ember
• Experience in healthtech, fintech or another regulated environment
• Experience building integration platforms or patient-facing products
• Experience building AI-powered product features, beyond using AI tools for development
• Experience contributing to architectural decisions for SaaS platforms at scale
• A track record of raising the technical bar as an individual contributor without relying on formal authority
• Experience with agentic workflows, prompt engineering or AI-driven refactoring
• Open-source contributions, technical writing or public speaking
• Formal qualifications in Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline
