Role Purpose


The National Key Account Manager - Optometry (NKAM) leads strategic customer partnerships across key optometry retail accounts to drive sustainable growth for Alcon’s Vision Care portfolio. The role is accountable for customer business planning, commercial execution, cross‑functional collaboration, and operational excellence to maximise sales, market share, and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Account Management

  • Develop and execute comprehensive Customer Business Plans aligned with Alcon’s strategic priorities and customer specific objectives to deliver sales, share and profitability targets.
  • Build and strengthen high‑value relationships with key stakeholders across category, marketing, education, and retail teams through ongoing quarterly business reviews, ideation workshops and strategic engagement.
  • Strengthen long-term business partnerships to accelerate growth in contact lenses, lens care solutions, and dry eye categories across the optometry channel.

Business Planning & Analytics

  • Leverage customer, category, and market data to identify growth opportunities, and support strategic decision‑making.
  • Monitor customer‑level sales, investment, and budget performance to ensure financial objectives are achieved.
  • Proactively identify competitive threats, customer experience issues, process gaps, and recommend timely, cost‑effective solutions

Commercial & Operational Execution

  • Collaborate with Brand and Professional Education teams to ensure all customer‑facing detailers receive required retailer head‑office approvals.
  • Develop and clearly communicate customer activation plans, ensuring alignment and flawless execution by in‑field teams.
  • Roll out national sales, promotional and training initiatives, coordinating with retailer head offices, Alcon’s field team and external partners for seamless execution.
  • Provide accurate and timely monthly sales forecasts; actively participate in demand planning and customer order‑fulfilment processes.
  • Track progress against customer plans, identifying incremental growth opportunities and ensuring timely risk‑mitigation actions.

Cross‑Functional Leadership

  • Partner with Marketing, Category, Professional Education and Sales Operations to develop integrated strategies, proposals, and customer solutions.
  • Drive operational alignment between International Senior Leadership and the ANZ Sales organisation to ensure clear prioritisation and execution of strategies for global key accounts
  • Present confidently to internal and external stakeholders, document proposals and insights succinctly and persuasively.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Commerce, Economics, Science or related discipline.
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in National or Key Account Management, Business Development, or a similar commercial role within FMCG, Consumer Healthcare or Medical Devices.
  • Strong strategic thinking with the ability to translate long‑ and short‑term customer needs into actionable plans aligned to Alcon’s priorities.
  • Exceptional relationship‑building, negotiation, presentation and communication skills.
  • Advanced analytical capability with the ability to interpret data and derive actionable insights.
  • Strong project management, and influencing skills, including the ability to lead without direct authority.
  • Ability to travel as required, including occasional evenings and weekends for customer or company events.
