The Director II, Research & Development Portfolio Management, is primarily responsible for creating and implementing an integrated plan and managing assigned new product development projects in R&D. You will lead cross-functional project teams, manage project status, budgets, and schedules, and ensure all requirements are met while providing clear leadership and guidance. Specifics include:

• Lead strategic planning, execution of medium to large scale projects, cross-functional R&D portfolio initiatives, ensuring alignment with corporate and franchise objectives and compliance with Stage-Gate processes.
• Develop and maintain integrated product development plans, overseeing project lifecycles from inception through commercialization.
• Guide cross-functional teams, proactively identify risks, implement contingency plans, and ensure timely issue resolution to meet safety, quality, and stakeholder objectives.
• Serve as a key liaison across internal and external stakeholders, ensuring functional alignment and effective communication.
• Oversee project operations, including budget forecasting, resource allocation, and financial planning in collaboration with Finance.
• Manage Product Lifecycle Team (PLT) governance, facilitate meetings, drive project approvals, and ensure execution of strategic initiative.
• Establish best-in-class project management processes, tools, and governance frameworks to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency.
• Maintain portfolio oversight by monitoring progress, identifying optimization opportunities, and providing executive-level insights.
• Champion innovation, foster cross-functional collaboration, and integrate scientific and business acumen to drive R&D excellence within a global, fast-paced, and highly regulated environment.
• Assist portfolio prioritization by balancing business-critical needs, cost considerations, and resource constraints on your projects.

What You'll Bring to Alcon:

• Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +18 yrs; Assoc.+14 yrs; M.S.+7 yrs; PhD+6 yrs)
• The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
• 10 Years of Relevant Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Degree in Chemical Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Biomedical Engineering Materials Engineering or equivalent.
• Medical Device Product Development Background
• PMP Certification
