Posted on Oct 22, 2025
Deputy is a global SaaS remote-first workforce management company with hubs in Sydney, Melbourne, San Francisco and London, plus team members working remotely across the United States. Our platform serves over 1.5 million workers and 375,000 workplaces across 100+ countries. We are backed by top global investors and recently achieved Unicorn status.
At Deputy, we’re improving the world of work, one shift at a time, for 80% of the world’s workforce: hourly workers. These are the dedicated employees who keep our world running – from baristas to nurses, cleaners to delivery drivers, florists to factory workers. Despite their vital role in society, most workplace technology has focused on those workers who sit behind a desk, but at Deputy, we transform the frontline. When businesses use Deputy, their workplaces thrive – the business is more profitable, compliant, and productive, while the workers are more engaged and happier at work.
If you’re passionate about creating solutions that put people first and helping businesses and their teams thrive, join us at Deputy and make an impact where it matters most!
The Role
We are seeking a proactive and versatile Lead People Generalist to join our People team on a 6 month fixed term contract. This critical hybrid role combines the essential daily functions of a traditional HR Generalist with the strategic design and management of high-impact organisational programs.
A key distinction of this role is the mandate to identify, implement, and optimise technology—specifically AI and automation tools—to streamline core HR processes, enhance employee experience, and free our People team for more strategic initiatives. You will serve as both a hands-on employee partner and a dedicated program leader, driving fairness, compliance, and efficiency across the employee lifecycle.

Responsibilities

    HR Generalist & Employee Relations
  • Employee Support: Serve as the primary point of contact and trusted advisor for employees and managers, providing coaching and counsel on sensitive matters including performance management, disciplinary actions, conflict resolution, and career development.
  • Compliance & Policy: Ensure strict adherence to federal, state, and local employment laws. Interpret, communicate, and enforce HR policies and procedures consistently across the organisation.
  • Performance Management: Facilitate the end-to-end performance review cycles, providing managers with the tools and training necessary for effective feedback, goal setting, and development planning.
  • HRIS & Data Integrity: Ensure the accuracy of employee data within our HR systems (HRIS) and manage core HR transactions (onboarding, transfers, terminations).
  • Programs Management & AI Implementation
  • Program Ownership: Own the planning, execution, and analysis of major People programs, such as annual performance reviews, employee engagement surveys, company-wide Learning & Development initiatives, and robust onboarding/off boarding processes.
  • Automation Strategy: Identify repetitive and manual HR tasks suitable for automation. Lead the integration of AI-powered solutions to streamline areas like employee query resolution, document generation, and initial talent screening.
  • Prompt Engineering & Optimisation: Design effective 'prompts' and instructions for generative AI tools used within HR workflows (e.g., generating first drafts of job descriptions or training content), ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Program Analytics: Develop and track program KPIs and HR metrics, leveraging data and basic AI/ML insights to measure effectiveness, diagnose organisational issues, and recommend strategic improvements.

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in Human Resources.
  • Proven hands-on experience as an HR Generalist or HR Manager.
  • Specialised HR experience in a role focused on either People Partnering, Talent Acquisition, or HR Operations.
  • Program Management Acumen: Demonstrated success in leading and managing complex, cross-functional HR programs from design through execution and analysis.
  • Technology & AI Passion: A genuine interest in leveraging technology, automation, and AI tools to improve HR efficiency and the employee experience. Experience with HRIS integration or working with AI platforms (e.g., generative AI, basic machine learning concepts) is a strong plus.
  • Strong emotional intelligence (EQ), excellent collaborative abilities, and proven success influencing stakeholders at all levels.
  • Expert knowledge of EMEA and AU labour laws and U.S. federal and state employment laws and best practices.
