About us

Employment Hero is an Australian tech unicorn - valued at over $1.25 billion. Our world-class software is the easiest way for small and medium-sized businesses to manage HR, payroll, employee engagement, and benefits. We’ve grown 100% year-on-year since our inception in 2014, and now service over 200,000 businesses and 1 million+ active users globally. We have exciting growth plans for 2023 and beyond, powered by our mission of making employment easier and more valuable for everyone.

We take a Remote First approach with our team. Employment Hero can hire across the world, so long as candidates have eligible working rights and are in a suitable timezone to their colleagues. If you’ve got the skills for the role and the passion for our mission then we want to hear from you!

Employment Hero celebrates diverse perspectives and experiences, we invite people of all backgrounds and identities to apply for this position.

About the role

While the journey to date has been exciting, we are entering the next phase of hyper-growth that will require a new level of connectivity and crystal clear communication. With around 900 people (and growing every week) it has never been more important to ensure the alignment and activation of our most valuable resources - our teams.

As the Internal Communications Leader reporting to the Chief of Staff, you will have extensive experience in designing internal comms campaigns. You will not just be a good writer, but you will have real creative flair and an ability to capture the hearts and minds of your audience. We’ve all seen comms leaders before who are technically competent but that definitely won’t be enough in this role. You will need to rapidly capture the pulse of Employment Hero, map out the key stakeholders and teams, then build tailored strategies to share the most important information in a way that people love. The right person will absolutely thrive in this mix between comms, internal marketing / PR and company leadership.

It is also important to note that we love and want to protect our start-up culture. This is not about building a big team; rather we’re building an enabling function that will help every member of the team understand our strategy, understand key initiatives (and the insights that drive them) and will know how their role accelerates our velocity to company-wide goals.

Responsibilities

Comms Planning:

  • You will create a clear comms plan, signed off by the ELT, to activate the most important initiatives and strategies across the group. You will be tightly connected to the ELT, SLT and key people across the business, providing critical connecting tissue.

Comms Execution:

  • You will be an exceptional writer, presenter and campaign manager. We don’t want traditional “corporate comms”; rather we want someone who really gets the DNA of our organisation and brings people together in a way that is fun, engaging and enables our async / remote-first way of working.

Strategy Comms

  • You will establish a clear communication framework for our strategy, our OKRs and our themes. This should include connecting people to “the why”, progress updates & engagement opportunities.
  • You will stay closely aligned to key operational leaders who drive the execution of strategy across the company.

People Comms

  • You will support the roll out and communication of any material people initiatives.

Performance Comms

  • You will find simple, easy to understand ways of sharing our performance against our strategy across the business, with nuanced execution reflecting the many different audiences in a global, scaling company (19 countries with varying levels of seniority).

Masterful collaboration

  • Collaboration is absolutely critical to our success. In order to communicate effectively you will need to understand and be connected to our key product, GTM and operational teams across the globe. Although you will be a sole contributor in the Internal Comms function, you will be a critical part of many other teams.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in internal communications, marketing, or PR roles.
  • Experience in a tech scale-up is highly advantageous.
  • Familiarity with founder-led businesses is valuable.
  • Adept communicator who excels in delivering concise and impactful messages.
  • Must be inspired by our company's vision and committed to enhancing our culture.
  • Passionate about translating strategic objectives into easily digestible information for employees.
  • Collaborative team player with a strategic mindset.
  • Capable of crafting creative content and captivating audiences.

Benefits

  • Self, health, wealth and happiness programs
  • Remote first and flexible working arrangements
  • A generous budget to spend on setting up your home office (if you need a desk, chair, or screen? We’ve got you covered!)
  • We set you up for success with the latest and greatest hardware, tools and tech
  • Learning & development (including an external study policy, live monthly professional development classrooms, and premium online learning content!)
  • Social events to get to know your new colleagues
  • Employee Share Option Program: be an owner of Employment Hero!
