How you will contribute to our mission in getting Australia to space:

The below is designed to give you an idea of the role you will play. There will be many more exciting and innovative things to do:

  • Contributing as part of a team of Flight Software Engineers to deliver Flight Software products and services
  • Where applicable, conducting junior leadership responsibilities (where technical authority is not required)
  • Leading small product teams on a quarterly basis
  • Participating in the development of Software engineering designs, processes and activities
  • To undertake accountability as a Responsible Engineer for Flight Software products
  • Conducting technical assessments, including: concept studies, trade studies, analysis of COTS solutions and estimates for Research and Development
  • Adhering to and participating in product development engineering processes including: requirements definition, preliminary / detailed design and verification / validation
  • Supporting Software unit and integration testing and operations (may include travel to remote sites)
  • Supporting investigations, troubleshooting and fixes
  • Supporting execution of Research and Development activities
  • Supporting Software engineering production activities associated with the Launch Vehicle product lines
  • Coordinating with the Mechanical, Propulsion and Manufacturing engineering departments as well as the Production organisation
  • Engaging with external suppliers, subcontractors and stakeholders
  • Ensuring that engineering activities are conducted and documented in accordance with Gilmour Space policies, plans and procedures
  • Other duties as requested by Management

Mandatory Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Software, Computer Science, Electronics, Mathematics or Mechatronics Engineering, or a relevant qualification
  • 2+ years of experience in a professional embedded software development and design engineering role
  • Proven ability to operate in dynamic, fast paced environments
  • Demonstrated resilience in high stress situations

Desired Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with C/C++, Python, MATLAB
  • Experience with baremetal, RTOS and embedded Linux software development
  • Experience with FPGA software development (VHDL/Verilog)
  • Experience with aerospace software engineering standards (eg. DO-178C)
  • Experience writing both inline and markdown software documentation
  • Experience using static / dynamic analysis and code coverage tools
  • Experience using software debugging tools (eg. GDB)
  • Experience developing unit and integration tests
  • Experience using git workflows
  • Experience conducting DevOps activities (managing infrastructure, developing CI/CD capabilities)
  • Experience developing software in accordance with Waterfall and Agile management frameworks
  • Understanding of Systems Engineering practises
  • Demonstrated engineering experience within the Aerospace, Medical, Automotive, or similar safety critical and high reliability software development and design engineering settings
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a high-paced, challenging work environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in a team environment with a desire and willingness to assist other team members
