Lead Product Manager (Pasture Team)
Halter

Auckland, New Zealand

About the Role
As the Lead Product Manager for Halter’s Pasture Team, you will help our farmers use virtual fencing to harvest more, higher quality, pasture from their land, improving the productivity and profitability of their farm in a sustainable way.
The heart of the pasture product is our digital software platform - a mobile and web application that delivers data, decision-making tools, insights and reporting, as well as acting as a farmer's interface with the collars to manage movement and fencing of the cattle.
What your day could look like
- Ownership of the pasture product end-to-end, discovering, defining and delivering the solutions that are most important and impactful to our mission - everything from continued iteration, zero-to-one innovations and scaling to new markets.
- Continuous discovery and development, working closely with the Head of Pasture and collaborating as part of a product trio with engineering and design leads. Throw away the textbook frameworks and processes, be pragmatic and nimble.
- Direct engagement with farmers and industry experts, often in the field, as well as sales and account managers, to gather insights and feedback to inform the problems and opportunities we focus on.
- Product evangelism, championing the value of the pasture product and showcasing its application to our farmers. You will advocate internally and externally for the contribution of pasture value to the success of pasture-based farmers and Halter as a company.
Who are we looking for
- An experienced product manager, who has delivered great products with proven impact: Achieving our mission requires us to deliver world-class products with real-world impact. Your most important KPI.
- Someone deeply curious and willing to become an expert in pasture-based farming: Our farmers expect us to know farming as well as they do, understand why they do what they do, and identify where they can do it better.
- Someone who is resilient and not afraid to get their hands dirty (literally):. We build a product that operates in the real world. We expect the unexpected, roll with the punches and take unconventional routes to get results if required.
- A strategic thinker, whose instinct is to skate where the puck is going: Technologies that impact our farmers - from our collars, to satellites, to AI - are changing monthly. We need to identify what will move the needle in 6,12 or 18-months time.
- Someone with strong prioritisation skills: The list of possibilities is long, farming is complex. We drive greater impact, faster, by focusing on the right things at the right time - focusing on the signal, not the noise
- Someone who is fearless: Pasture-based farming has existed for centuries. We cannot be scared to question the status quo, in the face of scepticism and critique, to move an industry forward.
- Someone who can embrace uncertainty and ambiguity: We often operate in unchartered territory. Your ability to navigate through this, slicing, testing, learning and iterating is critical. We believe in continuous discovery.
- A brilliant communicator: Whether it is with your teammates, internal stakeholders, external stakeholders or our farmers, communicating clearly and effectively must be a strength.
- Someone with great product taste: Our farmers use Halter in their tractor, while milking cows, in the rain and snow. Our product must be simple, intuitive, and performant - whenever and wherever used.
- A highly effective collaborator: The whole is greater than the sum of the parts. You must be skilled in working with engineers, designers, other product managers and other business stakeholders.
- An incredible teammate and leader: The pasture team is a tight-knit group with a strong culture. Being an incredible teammate, who others love working with and learning from, is not negotiable.
Bonus things you could bring along to the role - These are not essential for you to apply
- Experience as a people manager and openness to managing other product managers.
- A background or interest in pasture-based cattle farming is a huge bonus.

About Halter
At Halter we deliver solutions to cattle farmers that enable them to run more productive AND more sustainable operations, leveraging hardware, firmware, software and machine learning.
Our solar-powered smart collars, paired with our digital software platform, make it possible for farmers to virtually fence and remotely shift their cattle, monitor each animal’s behaviour, reproduction and health 24/7, and track the production of pasture and other forages across their land, in real-time.
Our mission is to become the default operating system for cattle farming, and drive a step change in one of the world's most important industries - one that has operated much the same way, with the same constraints, for decades.
We are on the right trajectory to achieve this mission. Since commercialising our product we have been New Zealand’s fastest growing company (1539% growth between 2021-2024). We have happy and successful customers in some of the world’s key pasture-based cattle markets (USA, Australia and New Zealand), with many more markets to come. We’re backed to deliver on a mission that matters by Tier 1 investors including Bessemer Venture Partners, DCVC, Blackbird, Promus Ventures, Rocket Lab’s Peter Beck and Icehouse ventures.
