As a key contributor to Virgin Australia’s Airports Commercial team, this role plays a pivotal part in shaping the airline’s airport commercial partnerships, infrastructure planning, and commercial negotiations.

Bringing a strong foundation in accounting principles and financial expertise, you will apply strong financial modelling experience to evaluate commercial proposal structures, analyse pricing proposals, and support data-driven decision making. Your ability to break down complex problem statements, critically assess proposals, and forecast long-term outcomes will ensure Virgin Australia secures access to critical airport infrastructure on commercially viable terms.

This role is ideal for commercially minded professionals with experience working on high-impact projects, transactions, or negotiations - whether in aviation or other fast-paced, (ideally) assetintensive industries. With an analytical mindset and collaborative approach, you'll support crossfunctional teams and external stakeholders to deliver sustainable, profitable outcomes aligned to the airline’s broader strategy.

Key Accountabilities

Safety, Security & Business Resilience

Complete mandatory training applicable to the role (including Safety, Security, Resilience and, Health and Wellbeing)

  • Actively participate in the Group’s Resilience program. Commercial Proposal Evaluation Analyse and evaluate commercial proposals from airports across the Virgin Australia network by interrogating ‘Building Block Models’ and supporting data covering terminals, runways, and broader aerodrome infrastructure Assess the financial and strategic implications of airport offers and proposals, identifying key risks, opportunities, and impacts on Virgin Australia’s commercial models — including landing fees, terminal charges, and other cost components Benchmark proposals against Aeronautical Pricing Principals and other industry best practices Track historical progression and update all proposals, assumptions and ‘what-if’ scenarios throughout the negotiation process with airports. Analytical Modelling Build and maintain robust, dynamic financial models to fully understand potential impacts and identify key drivers of any price changes Applying accounting principles, perform detailed scenario analysis and ‘what if’ analysis to evaluate the impact of variable inputs such as passenger volumes, opex, capex, asset values, useful life depreciation, WACC, etc Support budgeting and forecasting processes related to airport contracts. Commercial Recommendations Prepare negotiation strategies and executive briefing materials for airport contract discussions, using tools such as PowerPoint and Power BI Develop C-suite-ready presentations and recommendations, applying clear data visualisation techniques to highlight key insights Provide financial insights and commercial rationale to support decision makers during airport negotiations Deliver data-driven recommendations to guide strategic and commercial decision-making. Stakeholder Engagement Build effective and productive relationships with stakeholders to develop recommendations and deliver ongoing progress updates Ongoing contract management support Build effective relationships with the Property, Facilities & Workspace Planning teams, General Managers and other business units Work closely with stakeholders across Finance, Legal, Network Planning, and Operations to align on airport strategies Support internal approvals by preparing clear and concise documentation. Team Support Maintain accurate and organised documentation of processes, proposal history, and negotiation outcomes, ensuring commercial terms are effectively recorded and implemented Coordinate contract negotiations and ensure contracting moves through the Virgin Australia CAR and EAC sign off process as efficiently as possible Improve existing processes and support more efficient ways of working, embracing new technologies where possible
  • Provide support for monthly invoicing as required Keep all documentation up to date including business plans, OKRs, contract renewals, airport correspondence and notifications, team brand etc Actively contribute to expanding the commercial knowledge base and contract management practices in relation to airport service and facilities agreements Actively contribute to a positive team culture by sharing knowledge with team members and supporting team members as and when required.

Experience

Minimum 2 to 3+ years’ experience working in a similar Accounting/Financial Analyst role within a large organisation

Demonstrated experience dealing with complex data sets, commercial contracts and/or commercial strategies

Creating detailed, strategic presentations for C-Suite

Stakeholder management and relationship building experience

Ability to prepare reports and communicate insights to the business.

Aviation, infrastructure, capital heavy industries

Some negotiating experience.

Skills

High degree of competency in financial modelling and analysis

Effective communication skills both written and verbal, including the ability to consult with stakeholders at all levels

Strong skills in data analytics, scenario modelling and data visualisation

Excellent critical thinking skills

Demonstrated commercial acumen

Strong attention to detail

Excellent time management and project management skills

Strong in Microsoft Suite, particularly Excel
