The Financial Accountant is responsible for the preparation and delivery of regulatory reporting across the Helia Group, ensuring accurate, compliant and timely submission of APRA and other regulatory returns. Working closely with stakeholders across Finance, Actuarial and Investment teams, the role supports reporting automation, process improvements and key finance transformation initiatives, including the migration of the general ledger.

This is a maximum-term contract opportunity for 9 months.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation, review and submission of APRA regulatory returns for Level 1 and Level 2 entities, ensuring compliance with prudential standards and reporting requirements.
  • Own the end-to-end APRA reporting process, including data collection, validation, reconciliations, governance and submission via APRA Connect.
  • Partner with Finance, Actuarial and Investment teams to ensure accurate and timely regulatory reporting.
  • Investigate reporting variances, resolve data issues and respond to regulator queries.
  • Drive reporting automation, process improvements and enhanced controls across the regulatory reporting function.
  • Support external audits and prepare reporting analysis for Board and Audit Committee stakeholders.
  • Assist with other regulatory reporting obligations, including RBNZ, ABS and other regulatory/statutory returns.
  • Support month-end accounting activities, general ledger reconciliations and finance transformation initiatives.
  • Contribute to statutory reporting, financial statements and broader finance projects.

What you’ll bring

  • CA or CPA qualified.
  • 3+ years' post-qualified experience, preferably within financial services, insurance or a regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated hands-on APRA reporting experience, including preparation and submission of returns through APRA Connect (essential).
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and understanding of Australian Accounting Standards and APRA Prudential Standards.
  • High attention to detail with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience with reporting automation, Power BI, Snowflake, DBT or Workday Financials will be highly regarded.
