Engineering Manager (AI Native)
Immutable
Software Engineering, Other Engineering, Data Science
Sydney, NSW, Australia
As Engineering Manager for Immutable Play, you'll be a technical leader who thrives in a fast-paced, agentic environment where AI tools are the default, not the exception.
This is a high-impact, product-focused role leading streams responsible for play.immutable.com, the primary gateway for players to discover games. You'll lead cross-functional streams (Engineers, Product Manager, Data Scientist, Product Designer), with a mandate to drive player onboarding, engagement, and retention at scale.
Each stream is a focused feature line with 2–3 engineers, supported by PM, Design, and Data. You'll have full access to all AI tools like Claude, Cursor, and more, to drive technical direction and rapid prototyping. This role is hybrid in our Sydney HQ (3 days/week). We offer national and international relocation support and visa sponsorship.
You'll Be Empowered To 🎮
- Lead and Ship: Own the end-to-end player journey. Guide your teams to experiment and ship high-impact features quickly.
- Drive Delivery Excellence: Set and enforce best practices for delivery velocity and execution quality.
- Build High-Performance Culture: Foster autonomy, accountability, and fast iteration across your squads.
- Shape Technical Strategy: Define the platform's technical direction including smart matchmaking and player acquisition systems — in close partnership with Product, Design, and Data.
- Grow Your Team: Coach engineers with consistent feedback, mentorship, and clear career development paths.
We'd Love You To Bring 🤝
- 2+ years leading high-performing engineering teams, with a genuine commitment to coaching and performance development
- Experience leading zero-to-one product development in a founding or early-stage environment
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to bring clarity to ambiguous, fast-moving situations
- Strong full-stack engineering background with hands-on experience in system design, scaling, and delivery
- Proficient in React, TypeScript, Go, and comfortable leading teams using this stack
- Experience building consumer-facing products: player engagement, intelligent marketing, automated workflows, or scalable AI-powered features
Daily use of Claude, Cursor, and/or Copilot for coding, prototyping, architecture thinking, and technical review with clear, specific examples of impact
Team-level AI adoption: has introduced AI tooling standards, prompting practices, or LLM-assisted workflows into sprint cycles over the past 6–12 months
Hiring and evaluation: screens for AI aptitude in engineering candidates; has updated interview criteria or technical assessments to reflect AI-native expectations
Proactive LLM usage: can articulate concretely where AI has meaningfully improved velocity, quality, or product outcomes on their team, not surface-level
AI product thinking: understands how to design and ship AI-powered product features, not just use AI to write code
- Builder mentality with a track record of shipping high-quality, customer-centric consumer products
- Ideally from a fast-paced startup or scale-up environment
