Job Description

KPMG Law’s highly regarded national team of Tax Dispute Resolution and Controversy specialists have extensive experience assisting organisations and individuals in preparing for, managing and resolving tax disputes, whilst maintaining an effective working relationship with revenue authorities. Our busy, dynamic and growing team are looking for lawyers who have experience in tax, tax law and tax disputes. Candidates with over 6 years’ experience in an advisory firm, Big 4, traditional law firms or Government are invited to apply.

KPMG Law’s Tax Dispute Resolution & Controversy team are known as leading experts in this field and have been recognised in the legal 500 and International Tax Review (amongst others).

This role is open to applicants interested in a full or part-time role – with true flexibility provided to successful candidates through KPMG’s market leading leave and flexible/hybrid working models.

Your Opportunity

Joining KPMG Law, you will have the opportunity to be a key part of our growing team - who advise a broad range of clients including large multinationals, the Top 5,000 taxpayer population, high wealth individuals and respected clients on the many domestic and cross-border tax issues they are dealing with, in what is a rapidly changing world. The role will involve:

  • Working with our clients in preparing for and resolving their risk reviews, audits and disputes with the ATO, AusIndustry and State/ Territory revenue authorities, including working on complex ATO audits , preparing objections, briefing counsel and advising clients on ATO Risk Reviews, Audits, Independent Reviews, tax litigation.
  • You will have the opportunity to work with a range of clients and specialists across KPMG Law and KPMG to develop your written and oral advocacy skills and provide legal advice (including taxation law and administrative law).
  • KPMG Law’s Tax Dispute Resolution & Controversy team works nationally on most engagements, so all team members have an opportunity to work across all jurisdictions with partners and team members from other states.
  • Collaboration with many other specialist groups across KPMG’s Deals, Tax & Legal practice in Australia, as well as internationally (many clients are multinationals) is also a feature of many of the team’s engagements.

Your Experience

  • previous experience in corporate tax, international tax, tax law and/or tax dispute resolution and controversy in either a Big 4 professional services firm, a law firm or the Australian Taxation Office, with prior Big 4 experience viewed favourably
  • ability to deliver fully integrated solutions and make decisions to best meet client needs, collaborating as required across KPMG’s Tax & Legal practice and the firm
  • demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement in the delivery of quality services to clients, providing value add solutions to client’s problems
  • strong interpersonal, influencing and project management skills, as well as an ability to motivate and work as part of a high-performing team to achieve outcomes
  • ability to develop strong client relations and be proactive in deepening those relationships
  • commitment to support firm and practice training by providing knowledge for the development and delivery of training
  • an honest and ethical approach to business, which will provide a natural fit with our values
  • Australian and/or other Commonwealth country legal experience

Qualifications

You must have a Law Degree to be eligible for this role
