As an Associate Director, you will be a senior technical leader within the Accounting Advisory Services practice, advising clients on complex accounting matters, supporting financial reporting outcomes and leading high-quality client engagements. While the role is not sector-specific, experience in government or public sector reporting is highly regarded, given the firm’s strong and growing presence in this market.

You will work closely with Partners and senior stakeholders, lead teams, and play an active role in developing KPMG’s accounting advisory capability and market profile.

  • Support clients through year-end and interim financial reporting, including financial statement preparation and audit support
  • Advise on accounting implications of transactions, restructures and business change initiatives

  • Act as a senior escalation point for complex accounting judgements and audit matters

Client Relationships and Engagement Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with CFOs, Finance Directors and senior finance stakeholders
  • Lead engagements end-to-end, including scope definition, resourcing, budgeting, delivery and quality review
  • Work closely with Partners to deliver high-quality outcomes on key client accounts
  • Identify opportunities for additional advisory support and contribute to repeat and follow-on work

People Leadership and Development

  • Lead, mentor and coach managers and senior consultants within Accounting Advisory Services
  • Provide technical guidance, structured feedback and on-the-job development
  • Foster a strong culture of quality, collaboration and professional excellence

Practice Development and Market Contribution

  • Support proposals, tenders and client presentations across CFO Advisory
  • Stay abreast of emerging accounting standards and regulatory developments and translate these into client insights
  • Where applicable, contribute to government and public sector engagements, leveraging prior experience in public sector reporting frameworks

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience (typically 10+ years) in accounting advisory, technical accounting or financial reporting
  • Deep knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and IFRS
  • Strong experience preparing and reviewing complex accounting papers and financial statements
  • Proven ability to lead engagements and manage senior client relationships
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical matters clearly
