Mott MacDonald is seeking professionals to join our ever-expanding tunnel team. We are currently looking for versatile civil, geotechnical, or structural engineers in Arlington, VA to serve as a Senior Project Engineer in our tunnels resource group with a focus on underground design and construction projects. Experience in the transportation and water/wastewater sectors would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support the delivery of our existing portfolio of tunneling projects in the U.S. and Canada
  • Oversight of staff and execution of field investigation programs to collect data for use in design, condition assessments and the preparation of Reports
  • Contribution to detailed analyses for our projects involving tunnels and underground structures
  • Development of field instrumentation programs and evaluation of collected data
  • Management of staff producing design solutions, reports, and contributions to/reviews of specifications and drawings
  • Writing reports for submission to clients, including design-related technical memoranda and Reports
  • Direct client engagement working with guidance from senior management; including liaising with clients, responding to queries, and attending design and progress meetings
  • Contribution to and preparation of proposals for submission to clients
  • Ability to lay out/develop a design program and independently manage a team of staff
  • Managing and mentoring junior/graduate engineers and supporting their development

Candidate Specifications:

  • Bachelors in civil, structural or geotechnical engineering is required and a Masters in a related field is preferred.
  • Professional engineer (PE) license is required
  • 10+ years of experience in engineering consultancy (not including education) proficient in the use of structural software: STRAND7, SAP, STAAD or equivalent
  • Demonstratable record in design experience with geotechnical engineering, ground characterization for soil and rock, and a working knowledge of concrete, steel, and foundation design
  • Proficient in the use of geotechnical software, this may include Plaxis, GeoStudio packages/Slide, Rocscience packages, geotechnical data management (GINT/Holebase). A working knowledge of BIM tools (Bentley/Autodesk) would also be advantageous
  • NCTI Certified is preferred
  • Interest in underground design and construction for the transport, water or waste water Sectors and multidisciplinary working
  • Strong references from past managers or clients

The expected salary for this position is $126,000 - $153,000.

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.
