Job Description
Fire Engineer primarily with transportation and commercial buildings experience should have capability delivering technical guidance for fire modelling, code guidance reviews and innovative performance–based design solutions; to improve life safety, allow greater architectural flexibility, support safety case designs, maintaining sustainable designs with cost effective resolutions. Resolving design issues which would otherwise be prohibited by regulatory code guidance or to demonstrate ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable) principles have been achieved to support safety case and bespoke design options. Should have ability to apply risk assessment analysis and review holistic fire safety features in accordance with the best international practice.

Key Responsibilities:
● Support developing overall project fire strategy.
● Fire safety planning for flammable products handling facilities.
● Design fire protection systems, including fire sprinkler systems, fire alarms, and smoke control systems.
● Perform hydraulic calculations and prepare system layouts.
● Should be well versed with relevant NFPA and BS-EN standards e.g. NFPA 130/502//92/204, BS-EN 476/12101/7974/45545/1366/1363, CIBSE TM-19 etc.
● Should be well versed with latest fire protection technologies and international market practice.
● Ability to guide CFD fire modellers.
● Should have experience of supporting interfacing with approving authorities and licensee regulators internationally.
● You will be participating in project technical meetings involving internal clients/stakeholders, supporting the requirements of different projects.
● Develop team skill set by providing required training and guidance to peers and reportees.
● Collaboration/ coordination with other discipline’s counterparts.
● Reporting to Technical Principal/ Principal Engineer.
Candidate Specification
Qualifications:
Minimum Mechanical engineering degree (master’s degree in fire & safety engineering, numerical analysis-fire dynamics and thermal engineering will be preferred)
Essential Skills and Experience:
● Minimum 3–4 years of experience developing fire risk assessment analysis for international projects.
● Minimum 08–10 years of experience developing comprehensive fire engineering solutions.
● Experience of developing fire design submissions for international fire authorities and licensee regulators approval.
● Skilled in developing modelling strategies, interpreting results, and delivering actionable insights.
● Strong communicator with clear technical writing and presentation abilities.
Desirable Competencies / Skills:
● Experience of developing risk assessment and fire strategy report for overall projects.
● Hands on experience with computational modelling software and fire and smoke analysis methods e.g. FDS/Ansys Fluent.
● Basic understanding of 1D simulations, knowledge of boundary conditions, and application of 1D results in CFD analysis to provide meaningful results.
● Working knowledge of Python, C++, VBA etc, for integration with Mott MacDonald’s digital solutions and coding requirement of simulation projects.
● Hands-on experience with User Defined Function.
