About the role:

Mott MacDonald is currently looking for a Senior Dry Utilities Engineer for its Land Development team in Abu Dhabi, to support with the technical delivery of multiple master-planning/land development projects across the Emirate.

Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Prepare utility designs and calculations in line with relevant authority standards and project requirements.
  • Develop electrical load calculations and schedules, including (as applicable) load schedules, LV schedules, voltage drop, cable de-rating and related design documentation.
  • Design HV/MV/LV networks, including single line diagrams and infrastructure layouts.
  • Design street lighting networks (including tunnels/underpasses), producing layouts, single line diagrams, voltage drop calculations and lux studies (e.g., using DiaLux).
  • Design telecoms infrastructure networks and incorporate GSM coverage requirements, including layouts and coverage drawings.
  • Produce clear technical reports, design deliverables and presentation material to support project submissions and approvals.
  • Support cost and quantity estimation for dry utilities services and advise on value/optimisation opportunities.
  • Coordinate project submissions, deliverables, reviews and approvals against contract and authority requirements; identify and advise on any deviations.
  • Liaise with developers, clients and stakeholders to provide progress updates and support timely decision-making.
  • Provide regular updates and inputs to project/design managers and project managers, including progress reporting and technical reviews.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines and Mott MacDonald teams to ensure integrated design delivery across infrastructure packages.
  • Apply relevant local guidance and requirements, including ROW and corridor considerations (e.g., UCDM), utility plot requirements (e.g., UPDM) and applicable open space/security network guidelines (e.g., ADMCC), where relevant to the project.
  • Develop load estimates for infrastructure plots and key assets (e.g., pump stations, lifting stations and similar facilities), as required.
  • Maintain an innovative, research-led approach by tracking relevant technology updates (e.g., smart city applications, district cooling interface and power optimisation, renewable energy integration and data centre requirements) and proposing fit-for-purpose solutions.
  • Use relevant design tools as required (e.g., AutoCAD and ETAP) and contribute to digital delivery where applicable.
  • Support business development activity as requested, including input to marketing material and pursuit opportunities.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, contributing to capability building and quality of deliverables.
  • Demonstrate willingness to broaden knowledge across wider infrastructure schemes and multidisciplinary interfaces.

Candidate Specification :

  • Minimum Bachelors’ Degree in Electrical Engineering (or any relevant discipline); progressing towards Professional Registration (CEng or similar) with membership in a professional institution
  • Relevant experience in infrastructure master planning in the UAE.
  • KSA and wider GCC regional experience.
  • Working towards (or holding) a professional qualification is preferred (e.g., ICE, CIWEM, IET or ME).
  • Strong communication skills in English (written and verbal), with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Willingness to travel for short-term assignments, as required.
  • Experience with relevant hydraulic modelling and design software.
  • Strong presentation and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to manage design coordination and authority approval processes, interfacing with project teams, clients and stakeholders.
  • Exposure to international best practices and standards.
  • Sound knowledge of local authority and standards mainly (DMT, RTA, TAQA Distribution, TAQA Transmission, DoE/ ADWEA, ETISALAT, DU, RSB, ADM, DEWA, RTA, DM, ADMCC)
