Position Purpose Statement
As a Senior Product Manager, you are the visionary and driving force behind a product's success. Your role is to define the strategic direction, ensuring alignment with business goals and customer needs. You will leverage your deep understanding of the market, competitive landscape, and customer insights to craft a compelling product vision. Your leadership will inspire cross-functional teams, guiding them through the complexities of product development with a focus on delivering exceptional user experiences and measurable business outcomes.
Your responsibilities extend beyond strategy; you are the glue that binds the execution process. You'll prioritize features, manage trade-offs, and ensure that engineering, design, and other key functions are aligned and resourced appropriately. Effective communication is paramount—you'll articulate the product's vision, progress, and impact to stakeholders at all levels, driving engagement and support. Your ability to balance strategic thinking with tactical execution will be crucial in navigating challenges and seizing opportunities to propel the product and the organization forward.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy and vision:
  • Define the ideal customer profile (ICP) and the primary jobs-to-be-done
  • Define success and set the north star metric and input metrics
  • Develop a deep understanding of competitive dynamics and effectively position the product against competitors
  • Identify key distribution channels and develop the business model and pricing the product
  • Continuous discovery, feature prioritisation & problem-solving:
  • Ensure the roadmap has the right set of trade-offs
  • Drive problem and solution discovery and determine the level and type of research required
  • Write and receive feedback on PRDs that clearly articulate primary features and product needs
  • Collaborate with product design and engineering to effectively solve worthwhile problems in novel ways
  • Organise/direct prioritisation sessions
  • Define the right metrics, get agreement on them, and then track and communicate them
  • Execution: timelines, resources, and removal of obstacles
  • Ensure engineering, design, and other key functions are properly resourced for the successful execution of your roadmap
  • Remove or prioritise features and provide a clear roadmap for execution
  • Ask “stupid” questions to see if each function can reduce timelines or remove unneeded features or work
  • Push back on extraneous requests, whether internal (design, sales, etc.) or external (customers, partners)
  • Communication and Collaboration
  • Communicate team status, progress, obstacles, and functional sequencing to the rest of the organisation
  • Drive weekly/fortnightly team status meetings
  • Present to execs at regular product reviews
  • Pre and post-launch internal/external comms
  • Communicate the “why” behind the product road map, prioritisation, and sequencing
  • Crisply articulate problems, solutions and business impact of features and initiatives in tight PRDs
