About ProSpend
ProSpend is an Australian spend management and AP automation platform used by finance and accounting teams across ANZ and increasingly by global organisations. We integrate with major ERPs including MYOB Acumatica, MYOB Business, Business Central, Sage Intacct and Xero, helping companies control spend, automate approvals and reduce manual data entry. We're a small, fast-moving product team where everyone's work ships and everyone's opinion counts.
About the role
This is a hands-on product role that spans the full lifecycle - from identifying what to build through to making sure it ships well. You'll work across ProSpend's product surface, which means you'll be writing PRDs and prototyping with our designer one week, then writing user stories, working with developers and helping QA the next. We don't separate “thinking” from “doing” here - the person who defines the problem is the same person who sees it through delivery.
You'll report to the Product Director and work closely with our Technology Director, UX/UI Designer and the development team. This role suits someone with a few years of product experience who has shipped real things, wants to grow their strategic muscle, and isn't precious about rolling up their sleeves.
What you'll do
Discovery & Strategy
- Deeply understand ProSpend's users - their workflows, pain points, competitive alternatives and the commercial context behind what they need
- Run and continuously improve the customer feedback loop - plan sessions, conduct interviews, synthesise findings into themes and translate those into prioritised opportunities, not just a list of requests
- Score and prioritise feature ideas from multiple sources (internal stakeholders, customer conversations, support tickets, market signals) using a structured framework - and be able to defend your reasoning
- Support the Product Director with roadmap planning and quarterly planning inputs, including trade-off recommendations backed by evidence
- Write PRDs that define the problem clearly, scope the solution, set success metrics and specify what's out of scope
- Work with our designer to prototype and validate solutions before committing engineering effort
- Explore and define AI-powered features within ProSpend - identify where AI adds genuine value for finance teams, shape the approach and own delivery from concept through launch
- Engage with ERP and technology partners (MYOB, Sage, Business Central and others) to understand their roadmap, identify integration opportunities and scope what ProSpend should build next
Delivery & Execution
- Write clear user stories and acceptance criteria that developers and QA can work from without constant clarification
- Own the backlog - prioritised, groomed and ready for sprint
- Work alongside developers from kick-off to code review, unblocking questions and making trade-off decisions in real time
- Support QA with test case review, edge case identification and release sign-off
- Ensure releases go out on time and coordinate with the Technology Director on deployment
- Track post-launch adoption and feed learnings back into the next iteration
GTM & Enablement
- Work with marketing to develop launch plans, positioning, and messaging for new features
- Brief sales on what is shipping, why it matters, and how to position it in deals
- Write or contributing to release notes, feature announcements, and internal enablement materials
- Coordinate with marketing on channel timing, beta cohorts, and early access programs
- Partner with the customer team to ensure smooth rollouts - training materials, in-app guidance, and a feedback channel so adoption issues surface early
What we're looking for
Experience
- 3+ years in a product role (product manager, product owner, or a hybrid of both)
- You've shipped features that real users adopted - not just launched, but measured and iterated on
- Experience owning a feature area or product surface, not just executing someone else's roadmap
- Comfortable working in Jira, Figma and product analytics tools
- Strong written communication - you can write a PRD, a user story and a stakeholder update without them all reading the same
- Experience in spend management, AP automation, fintech or accounting software is a genuine bonus - but not required if you learn domains fast
- A commercial lens on product decisions - you think about revenue impact, competitive positioning and customer willingness to pay, not just usability and feasibility - is a strong differentiator
Skills
- End-to-end product thinking - you can hold both the strategic and tactical threads without dropping either, across discovery and delivery
- Stakeholder facilitation - you can run a scoping session, navigate competing opinions and land a decision
- PRD and prototyping - you write specs that clarify, not specs that create more questions
- Roadmap scoring - you can evaluate opportunities using a structured framework, not gut feel alone
- AI-assisted research and synthesis - you use AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, etc.) to accelerate your work and critically evaluate the output
- ERP domain knowledge is valued - understanding how finance teams work with MYOB, Business Central, Xero or similar systems will accelerate your impact
Behaviours we hire for
- Critical thinking - you decide with data and evidence, not consensus or loudest voice. You question the problem before jumping to solutions.
- Ownership - you're accountable for outcomes, not just output. If something falls through the cracks, you pick it up.
- Customer focus - you regularly engage with customers and use what you learn to inform prioritisation, not just validate what's already decided.
- Bias for action - you ship and iterate rather than polishing in perpetuity. Done and learning beats perfect and theoretical.
- Collaboration - you align cross-functional partners (engineering, QA, design, stakeholders) without needing authority to do it.
Why ProSpend
- Small team, big impact - your work ships to real customers, not into a backlog black hole
- Full-lifecycle ownership - you'll do discovery and delivery, not one or the other
- Growing company - we're expanding into global markets and investing in AI-powered features. The roadmap is genuinely interesting.
- Hybrid flexibility - Sydney-based with a mix of office (3 days) and remote (2 days)
- Clear career path - we've built a progression framework so you know what growth looks like here
What to include
Send your CV and a short note on a product you've shipped that you're proud of - what was the problem, what did you do, and what happened. We value evidence over buzzwords.
