The Opportunity: The Senior Internal Auditor role is expected to lead internal audits end-to-end, ensuring that key deliverables and milestones are achieved. They are expected to perform risk assessment and controls testing and contribute towards the completion of the work program and drafting of audit reports.

  • Location: New York City (55 Water Street, NYC)

  • Work Arrangement: This role is hybrid, where you will be expected to be in the office 2-3 days per week

  • The salary range for this role is between $125,000.00 and $188,000.00

Primary Responsibilities:

Audit Execution

  • Lead audit engagements, developing timetables, engaging stakeholders, and coordinating the key deliverables.

  • Ensure audits are conducted in compliance with the Group Audit Manual, to a high standard and within deadlines.

  • Proactively gather information, assess risks and develop Audit Work Programs.

  • Test and conclude on the design and effectiveness of mitigating controls.

  • Use approved tools (TM+ audit application, templates, sampling methodology, data analytics) for conducting and documenting work.

  • Communicate audit findings and work with management to address control deficiencies, recommend remediation plans and monitor management actions.

  • Draft issues and observations in accordance with GIA methodology and reporting requirements for inclusion in the audit report.

  • Support the adoption of best practices and new initiatives to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the team, coaching junior team members where necessary.

  • Perform complex audits and reviews that require experienced staff.

GIA Strategy and Initiatives

  • Understand and support implementation of GIA strategy.

  • Actively participate in Internal Audit’s Centre of Excellence programmes, such as underwriting, claims, ESG, data analytics, risk culture.

Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain effective ongoing working relationships with the business.

  • Handle diverse viewpoints professionally, consulting with GIA management as appropriate.

  • Monitor feedback during audits and respond appropriately.

Self and Team

  • Actively seek feedback and take ownership of personal career development.

  • Coach and guide junior staff.

  • Support the onboarding process for new team members to ensure smooth integration.

  • Contribute to a positive work environment, by demonstrating the QBE DNA.

Work Experience:

Necessary Work Experience includes:

  • Moderate relevant experience in insurance or assurance (audit/risk management).

Preferred Work Experience includes:

  • Proven experience in leading internal or external audits of financial and operational controls within the insurance or the financial services sector.

  • Awareness of Institute of Internal Audit’s Global Internal Audit Standards.

  • Good understanding of business structures, functions, key processes, risks and controls to enable review, assessment, testing and identification of any efficiency and/or effectiveness recommendations.

  • Demonstrate sound knowledge and understanding of GIA methodology, processes and requirements, and relevant standards and regulatory requirements in the conduct of assigned work.

  • Fundamental knowledge of risk and internal control concepts and experience in applying them to plan, perform, and report on the evaluation of business functions processes, risks and controls.

  • Working knowledge of computer systems and software.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Post graduate qualification in audit, insurance, risk management or related area.

Experience: Proven experience in leading internal or external audits of financial and operational controls within the insurance or the financial services sector.

Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of experience in insurance or assurance (audit/risk management).

Licenses/Certifications: CIA, CPA, CA preferred.

Preferred Competencies/Skills:

  • Ability to work independently, with limited direction and guidance.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills capable of building relationships with key stakeholders at all levels of management.

  • Competent project manager.

  • An analytical thinker, with the ability to explore and evaluate information, including the use of data analysis techniques.

  • Proficient in use of Office software.

  • Adaptable to change and able to work in a dynamic environment.

Preferred Knowledge:

Compensation Package: The salary range for this role is provided above. This is the national range for location(s) listed. The salary offer will be decided based on the role's complexity, its location, and the candidate’s professional background, including their education and experience. Beyond the base salary, regular full-time and part-time employees will also be eligible for QBE’s annual discretionary bonus plan based on business and individual performance.
