Time Type: Full timeWorker Type: EmployeeThe Insurance Accounting Analyst is responsible for supporting the financial integrity of insurance operations by accurately recording, analyzing, and reporting insurance-related transactions. This role involves accounting for premium, claims, reinsurance, and regulatory compliance. The analyst ensures timely month-end close activities, prepares financial reports, and collaborates with cross-functional teams such as actuarial, underwriting, and finance. A strong understanding of insurance accounting principles, attention to detail, and proficiency in financial systems are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare journal entries and ensure accurate posting to the general ledger in accordance with IFRS, GAAP, and local regulatory standards.

  • Assist in month-end and year-end closing activities, including account reconciliations and reporting.

  • Record and reconcile insurance transactions such as premiums, claims, commissions, and reinsurance settlements.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as actuarial, underwriting, and finance to ensure data accuracy and consistency.

  • Timely Execution: Completing activities on time according to the finance calendar and ensuring no audit errors.

  • Compliance and Reporting: Contributing to the preparation of accurate accounting records in line with internal procedures and statutory requirements. Supporting the production of financial returns and management reports.

  • Assist in internal and external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and responding to audit queries.

  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting to support business decisions.

Work Experience:

  • Proven experience in insurance accounting processes, including premium and claims accounting, reinsurance, and IBNR (Incurred But Not Reported) reserves.

  • Strong background in preparing and analyzing trial balances, general ledger reconciliations, and financial statements in accordance with IFRS or local GAAP.

  • Experience leading or participating in finance transformation initiatives such as system Continuous improvement implementations, automation, or process clean-ups.

  • Hands-on experience in managing suspense accounts, performing root cause analysis, and implementing sustainable reconciliation processes.

  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including actuarial, underwriting, and IT, to resolve accounting issues and support business decisions.

  • Proficiency in Oracle, BlackLine reconciliation tools, and advanced Excel functions.

Qualifications:

Necessary Qualifications include:

  • Tertiary Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Certificates as an accountant. Preferably CPA.
