The Opportunity
Reporting to the Head of Testing & Environment Management, you will have an opportunity to develop your craft from a well-respected leader in the Testing Community, known for her thought leadership, passion for quality engineering & building high performing teams. As her 2IC you will:
- Lead the future of test engineering at QBE as our Test Architect.
- Set and scale automation strategy across teams and platforms.
- Integrate modern tooling and embed AI into testing workflows.
- Own standards, frameworks, and technical direction for quality engineering.
- Drive quality engineering and resilience in a collaborative, inclusive culture

- Hybrid working model – 3 days in the Auckland office, flexibility from home.

Your new role
As our technical expert for test engineering, you will:
- Design the automation vision, leading adoption, and uplifting capability across squads.
- Partner closely with Engineering, Enterprise Architecture and Delivery to align testing with our architectural runway and business outcomes.
- Coach team members, build communities of practice, and be accountable for our Test Engineering Roadmap.
- Architect automation strategy across teams and platforms; define standards & policy.
- Select & integrate tools across ecosystems (e.g., Selenium, Playwright, TypeScript).
- Embed AI in testing (e.g., intelligent test design, assistive coding, defect prediction); drive MCP use across testing.
About you
You are a high-performing, Test/Software Architect who has designed testing roadmaps & is inclusive & enjoy bringing teams on the journey centering your mentoring around their needs. To be successful, you will have:
- Previously mentored & set the technical direction for teams.
- Coding experience where you have built reusable automation components & frameworks.
- Strong AI orientation and practical application across testing.
- Experience with DevSecOps/CI/CD principles; quality gates & governance.
- Community‑spirited—eager to learn, grow and future‑focus the craft.
