Your new role

  • Be part of a refreshed and ambitious Marine portfolio – QBE Pacific has revitalised its marine proposition with a modernised underwriting approach and a broadened appetite across a diverse range of marine risks.
  • Underwrite a wide spectrum of marine business, including (but not limited to) marine liability, single transit, cargo, carriers, hull, and specialist marine programs
  • Drive market growth in New Zealand – we bring global capability and product strength; you bring local expertise, relationships, and market influence to expand our presence across the NZ marine insurance market.
  • Shape our underwriting strategy and portfolio development, contributing to pricing discipline, product enhancement, and broker engagement initiatives.

About you

  • You are an experienced Marine Underwriter or Portfolio Specialist, with solid technical capability across key marine classes such as cargo, hull, liability, and single transit.
  • Confident in applying considered underwriting judgement, using your expertise to assess complex risks, structure solutions, and contribute to disciplined portfolio growth.
  • A natural relationship builder, skilled at developing deep broker and client partnerships that translate into new business opportunities and sustainable growth.
  • Comfortable working autonomously, taking ownership of your book and making sound decisions, while also knowing when to collaborate and draw on the strength of your wider team.
  • Confident to review data, interpret trends, and make recommendations that support portfolio performance and strategic direction.
  • Proactive and commercially minded, consistently seeking ways to enhance proposition, improve underwriting quality, and deliver value to both clients and the business.
