The Opportunity
QBE Portfolio Solutions (QPS) continues to grow at an exceptional pace, and we are now recruiting for Underwriter and Senior Underwriter roles to join our London‑based team, within the fastest‑growing underwriting division at QBE.
These newly created roles are suited to experienced Underwriters with a background in long‑tail classes, looking to broaden their portfolio exposure and play a meaningful role in shaping a rapidly expanding underwriting capability.
Joining QPS means being part of a market‑leading, innovative and highly visible team with global reach across broker facilities, consortia/MGA platforms and algorithmic underwriting. Our team has grown from 1 to 15 in five years, and we remain focused on building a long‑term, high‑calibre underwriting function.
You will have the opportunity to work closely with senior leaders, influence underwriting strategy and portfolio outcomes, and contribute to a supportive, developmental culture.
Having the right to work in the UK is a requirement for this role. QBE may consider sponsorship at its discretion.
About QBE
At QBE, we get to the heart of what matters for our customers. And we do it all with a human touch.
We’re an international insurer with more than 13,000 people working across 26 countries – which means we’re big enough for your ambitions, yet small enough for you to make a real impact. It’s an exciting time. We’re building momentum towards our vision to become the most consistent and innovative risk partner.
What if you could have a positive impact – at work and in the world? As part of the QBE team, you’ll get to spend every day working with people who are passionate, talented and kind.
Your new role
You will play a pivotal role in driving profitable growth and ensuring the long term performance of the QPS portfolio. You will:
Analyse and review portfolio performance to ensure optimisation, resilience and profitable outcomes through the cycle
Build strong relationships with brokers, MGAs, internal stakeholders and business partners, establishing yourself as a credible and trusted market voice
Contribute to shaping evolving strategy, underwriting best practice and modernisation initiatives
Operate in line with the annual business plan, using sound judgement to support decision making
Adhere to all legal, regulatory, and underwriting standards
Remain up to date with market conditions, trends, and opportunities, applying market cycle awareness to your underwriting decisions
This is not a Lloyd’s box trading or heavily travel led role - instead, you’ll be part of an office based team with meaningful exposure to senior decision makers and the chance to influence outcomes at scale.
About you
These roles are best suited to experienced Underwriters, with experience gained within the London market or equivalent international markets.
You will bring:
Proven underwriting experience gained in an open market, MGA/binder or reinsurance environment with a willingness to transfer to a cross-class portfolio.
Understanding of the delegated authority environment within the London market.
Strong portfolio and performance analysis capability, with confidence working with complex datasets
The ability to operate with maturity, confidence and credibility in a high profile underwriting environment
Clear and effective communication skills, able to engage brokers and senior internal stakeholders
Strong organisational skills and comfort working to deadlines
A commercial mindset, curiosity and willingness to adapt as the portfolio and strategy evolve
