Scanning Tunneling Microscopy Lab Support

Want to shape the future of technology? Join Quantum Brilliance, a German-Australian startup that's revolutionizing the world with mobile quantum computers! Our mission? To create a mini quantum computer that will completely change how we perceive and utilize quantum computing.

What we do:
In Freiburg, we're working on the heart of our quantum computer – a diamond-based quantum chip. With atomic precision, we create defects in the diamond to make the next generation of computers a reality. That's where you come in: We need your support with the operation and maintenance of our fabrication tools based on scanning tunnelling microscopes (STM). If you have never heard of an STM, don’t worry!

Your tasks

  • You support us with
  • organizing microscope results to train neural network models
  • producing ultrasharp metal tips
  • daily operational tasks of a STM cluster
  • maintenance of our STMs and other fabrication tools
  • Your tasks are adjusted to match your skills and interests – this is your chance to add your personal input!

What you should bring

  • You are enrolled at a university
  • You are a good communicator and problem solver
  • One or more of these apply to you:
  • You have gained experience in a laboratory or with a microscope, ultra-high vacuum systems
  • You have gained experience in handling basic chemicals: isopropanol, ethanol, and NaOH.
  • You have experience in handling and working with delicate, small-scale components, requiring precision and attention to detail
  • You are fluent in English (we are an international team)

What we offer

  • Exciting work at the intersection of research and application, with diverse tasks in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
  • Flexible working hours that fit your study schedule.
  • Space for your ideas – be creative and make a real difference with us!

The position is limited to one year, with the option to extend. We offer a minimum of €14/hour with a maximum of 80 working hours per month.
