The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Search & Content team at Redbubble.

Your primary focus will be on designing, building and evolving the systems that power search, ranking and product discoverability on our platform - helping millions of customers find the art and products they love. You’ll play a key role in scaling and improving our search infrastructure, collaborating with product, SEO and marketing teams to deliver smarter, faster and more relevant search experiences.

The Search & Content team also owns areas like artist onboarding, content moderation and payments. While you'll collaborate across these domains occasionally, your core responsibility will remain deeply focused on Search.

While our office is based in Melbourne, we are open to remote working arrangements for the right candidate.

Key Accountabilities

• Design, build, test, and deploy software across the full development lifecycle.
• Lead initiatives to solve complex problems at scale to meet business objectives.
• Contribute to a high-quality codebase and uphold team engineering standards.
• Continuously learn and apply new tools and technologies to drive innovation.
• Provide input into the technology roadmap and promote sustainable system health and documentation.
• Mentor and coach less-experienced engineers in technical skills and company values.
• Guide technical discussions, solution design, and feature delivery planning.
• Collaborate with leads to translate business goals into actionable development work.
• Actively participate in team ceremonies (retros, standups, planning, showcases).
• Champion the impact of your work and the value it has on our artists, customers and fulfillers.

What You'll Bring

• Hands-on experience maintaining and supporting search infrastructure (eg. OpenSearch / ElasticSearch).
• Strong commercial expertise across modern tech stacks (eg. AWS, Go, Ruby, React).
• Skilled in troubleshooting complex production issues and working with legacy code.
• Strong understanding of software design principles (eg. API, data modelling, frontend, scalability).
• Confident leading technical design conversations and producing specifications.
• Ability to define and deliver on tech spikes, user stories and epics.
• A collaborative and inclusive approach to problem-solving, adaptable to change.
