Originated from Spotify, Backstage is a leading open source platform for building developer portals. Adopted by hundreds of companies, Backstage helps customers to restore order to their microservices and infrastructure and enables product teams to ship high-quality code quickly — without compromising autonomy.
Interested in helping us drive Spotify’s developer portal philosophy among the most advanced tech companies? We in Spotify’s Backstage team are looking for our first Business Development Representative to help get our product into the hands of our very first customers.
Join a nimble, startup-like team of engineers, marketers, business developers, and product managers to drive an entirely new technology-focused business line and distribution channel.
A Business Development Representative (BDR) is a key member of a company's sales team responsible for generating leads and qualifying prospects. Their primary role is to research potential clients, initiate contact, and schedule meetings or demonstrations for the sales team. You will generate meetings for Account Executives and educating customers that are interested in purchasing Spotify Plugins for Backstage.

What You'll Do

  • Prospecting: Identifying and researching potential clients or markets to pursue new business opportunities.
  • Outreach: Reaching out to prospects through various channels such as cold calling, emailing, social media, or networking events to introduce the company's products or services.
  • Qualifying Leads: Assessing the suitability of leads by understanding their needs, budget, timeline, and decision-making process.
  • Lead Nurturing: Building relationships with prospects by providing relevant information, answering questions, and addressing concerns to move them through the sales funnel.
  • Appointment Setting: Scheduling appointments, demos, or meetings for the sales team with qualified prospects.
  • CRM Management: Recording and tracking interactions with prospects in a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to maintain accurate records and facilitate follow-up activities.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with the sales and marketing teams to align strategies, share insights, and optimize lead generation efforts.
  • Metrics and Reporting: Monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) such as conversion rates, response rates, and pipeline velocity, and providing regular reports to management on progress and challenges.
  • Overall, a Business Development Representative plays a vital role in driving revenue growth by expanding the company's customer base and establishing valuable connections within the target market.

Who You Are

  • Have 1-2 years of B2B sales, marketing or customer facing experience, ideally in SaaS or technology, selling to mid-market or enterprise accounts, including previous outbound prospecting experience
  • Self-starter with the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • A proven record of consistently exceeding quotas
  • A good understanding of forecasting & pipeline management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to sell at all levels from individual contributors to C-Suite
  • Experience with CRMs (experience with Hubspot highly preferred)
  • Strong customer orientation and a passion for delivering a world-class customer experience
