Let’s introduce ourselves

We’re a venture-scaler powered by CommBank. That means we build, buy, and invest in startups that could benefit the bank’s 15 million customers and beyond.

Because of what we do, we’re really neither corporate, nor startup – instead we’re happily navigating the space between both worlds. We're close enough to benefit from the bank’s strategy, scale and stability, but separate enough that we have the auton

omy to try new things.

What about your team?

We are looking for a talented engineer to join the core team. This role is crucial for building innovative AI use-cases across x15 and enhancing our shared capabilities. If you're passionate about AI and enjoy collaborating with lots of different teams, this could be a perfect opportunity for you.

You will be primarily responsible for building software and providing technical tooling and advice that allows our ventures to operate safely at speed within a regulated environment. You should be comfortable communicating and working with a wide range of roles across the ventures.

Along with software engineering, there is an expectation you can help establish and evolve the technology policies and procedures that help run our portfolio of ventures safely.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and own production GenAI systems end-to-end, including APIs, services, workflows, and developer- or customer-facing applications.
  • Build and evolve shared GenAI platforms, tools, and frameworks that enable teams to safely deliver AI use cases at scale.
  • Define, implement, and enforce guardrails for GenAI systems, including input/output validation, policy enforcement, explainability, and misuse detection.
  • Partner closely with product managers, designers, and domain experts to deliver GenAI solutions with measurable customer and business impact.
  • Establish and maintain operational standards for GenAI, including monitoring, alerting, evaluation, and incident response.
  • Own and evolve a shared GenAI codebase to drive reuse, consistency, and speed across ventures and teams.
  • Design and operate CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and deployment workflows suitable for rapidly evolving GenAI systems.
  • Lead architecture, design reviews, and technical decision-making, influencing standards across multiple teams.
  • Contribute to the GenAI engineering strategy, balancing innovation speed with safety, reliability, and regulatory expectations.

We are interested to hear from people who have the following experience and skills:

  • Demonstrated experience shipping and operating GenAI solutions in production, including post-launch iteration, monitoring, and improvement.
  • 8+ years of experience building, running, and scaling production-grade software systems.
  • Strong hands-on coding experience in TypeScript and/or Python.
  • Demonstrated experience building and operating LLM-powered systems in production, including prompt design, model fine-tuning or adaptation, and real-world service integration.
  • Experience using or building with GenAI frameworks and tooling (e.g. LangChain, Semantic Kernel, or equivalents).
  • Strong understanding of responsible AI and GenAI safety, including bias, robustness, explainability, risk assessment, and secure deployment.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure), including architecture, security, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform).
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence senior technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A strong sense of ownership and bias for action, someone who takes responsibility for outcomes, not just implementation.

Desired

  • Experience delivering software in regulated or high-risk domains (e.g. financial services, healthcare).
  • Hands-on experience implementing GenAI risk controls, such as output filtering, policy enforcement, and explainability techniques.
  • Strong product mindset, with a focus on customer outcomes and long-term maintainability.
  • Product-oriented mindset—someone who builds with the end-user in mind and collaborates closely with PMs and designers.
  • A demonstrated passion for developer experience, internal tooling, and platform enablement.
